In the name of God Amen. I John Baden Jr. of Prince Georges County in the state of Maryland being in good health of body and of sound and disposing ming, memory & understanding – considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time there of and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say, First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the earth to be dencently [sic] buried at the discretion of the executor here in after named and after debts and funeral charges are paid I desire and bequeath as follows -
Item. I Give to my Grand son Robert Wm. Grover Baden all the land within the following bounds. begining at Spices Creek bridge runing with the publick Road going toword the federal oak untill it reaches the gate near the black peoples grave Yard then with a strait line towards Sibspring branch untill it intersects the old publick Road then with said old Roade down the Reatherford’s hill untill it reaches Joseph N. Baden’s Mill seat then with the line of said Mill seat and the Reatherford’s Branch to the crossway and then to the begining at Spices Creek bridge – Reserving the use of said land to Margaret Baden the widow of my son John T. Baden during her single life.
Item. I Give to my great-grand son John Baden the son of my grand son Thomas George Baden all the ballance of my plantation whereon I now live Reserving the use of said plantation to my son James Baden during his life.
Item. I Give to my son James Baden one Negro woman named Betty, one Negro woman named Beck one Man named Isaac & one named Sam. Item I Give to my Great Grandson John Baden the son of Grand Son Thos George Baden, one negro boy named Sam and one Negro boy named David.
Item. I Give to my Great Grand son James Thomas Baden the son of my grand son Th George Baden one Negro woman named Alley one negro girl named Margaret one boy named George and one Girl named Martha Anne.
Item. I Give to Margaret Baden my son John’s widow one Negro Girl named Anne.
Item. I Give to my Grand Son Robert Wm. Grover Baden one negro Girl named Maria.
Item. I Give to my Grand son Jeremiah Thomas Baden one Negro Girl named Mary.
Item. I Give to my Daughter Martha Naylor one Feather bed Bedstead and furniture and one cow & calf.
Item. I Give to my negro Woman Alley one Feather Bed.
Item. I Give to my son James Baden all the residue of my property not herein mentioned.
And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son James Baden to the sole executor of this my last Will and Testament revoking and anulling all former Wills by me heretofore made ratifying this and non other to by my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 23rd day of April 1839.

Then came Joseph A. Turner one of the subscribing witnesses to the within Will & made oath on the holy Evangely of Almighty God that he did see John Baden Jr. Testator here in named sign and seal this Will and heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his last Will and Testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of his apprehension of sound and disposing mind memory and understandingand that he [[interlined] ^ together with Thos. N. Baden & John L. Turner] respectively subscribed their names to this will in the presence of the Testator at his request and in the presence of each other.

Then came John L. Turner one of the subscribing witnesses to the within Will of John Baden Junr. late of said county deceased, and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that he did see John Baden Jr. Testator herein named Sign and seal and heard him pronounce publish and declare the same to be his last Will and Testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of his apprehension of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding and that he [[interlined] ^ together with Thos. N. Baden & Jos. A. Turner] respectively subscribed their names to this Will in the presence of the Testator at his request and in the presence of each other.
Sworn before James Harper Regr. of Wills for P. G. County
Whereas I John Baden of Prince Georges County have made and duly executed my last will and testament in writing bearing date the 23rd day of April 1839, Which said last will and testament and every clause bequest and devise there in contained I do hereby ratify and confirm and being desirous to make additions thereto do therefore hereby make this my codicil Which I will and direct shall be taken and held as a part of my said will and testament in manner and form following that is to say, Item I give to me great grand son John Baden son of my grand son Ths George Baden one negro Man named John who calls himself John Docket. Item I give to Margaret Baden the widow of my son John T. Baden the small boy named John the son of the negro Girl Anne whom I gave her in my will and I also now give said Margaret Baden all her future increase. Item I give to my grand son Jeremiah Thomas Baden one negro child named Julia the daughter of girl Mary I gave him in my will and I also give said Jeremiah Thomas Baden all the futer increase of said girl Mary.
Item I direct that my son James Baden whom I appointed in my will my sole Exctor shall sell my crop of all descriptions and Horses Oxen and cattle &c immediately and apply the proceeds thereof to the payment of all my just debts funeral charges &c and if there should be any ballance remaining he ma apply it to his own use. In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this 1st day Janua. 1846.

Then came Joseph N. Baden and John L. Townshend two of the subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing Codicil to the last Will and Testatment of John Baden Jr. late of said county deceased & made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that they did see the said John Baden the Testator sign and seal the said codicil and heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be a codicil to his last Will and Testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding and that they respectively subscribed their names as Witnesses to the said codicil in the presence of the Testator at his request and in the presence of each other.
